HydroDesigns, LLC participated in the acquisition of the original Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Class I injection well construction and testing permit. This involved the acquisition of area of review well data, determination of the geology/hydrogeology of the area, design of the injection and monitoring wells, testing during drilling (cuttings, cores, borehole geophysics, straddle packers, pump and injection tests, MIT’s, and water quality), and responding to FDEP requests for information (RFI’s). The injection well was constructed to 2,906 feet bls and the multi-zone monitoring well to a total depth of 1,905 feet bls both penetrating the Floridan Aquifer System. HydroDesigns provided good construction oversight and reporting to the Services District and prepared the final Construction and Testing Report for FDEP. During construction daily site activities were recorded (drilling rates, mud weights, casing installations, pressure testing, straddle packer testing, water quality sampling, geologic interpretation of cuttings and cores, interpretation of geophysical logs, and aquifer performance testing for hydraulic characteristics and pump sizing were also performed. This facility has obtained an operating permit for the injection well system and conducted three MITs (5 years). The second and third MITs were performed in May 2015 and May 2020.

HydroDesigns, LLC assisted with the FDEP permit application for the ASR system. This included the design of the injection well, the geology/hydrogeology of the area, and the testing program during construction. This ASR well was designed to inject treated effluent into the Lower Floridan aquifer below the base of the Underground Source of Drinking Water (USDW). HydroDesigns was retained by All Webbs Enterprises, Inc. for construction oversight of the ASR and monitor wells. The initial exploratory well was drilled to 1,600 feet bls. The exploratory well was tested to determine the base of the USDW and potential storage zones in the upper portion of the Lower Floridan aquifer. It was later converted to a monitor well. The ASR well was drilled to a depth of 1,400 feet bls. A second monitor well was drilled to a depth of 950 feet bls. Construction oversight work included, documentation of daily site activities (drilling rates, mud weights, casing installations, pressure testing, etc.), geologic interpretation of cuttings and cores, interpretation of geophysical logs, and aquifer performance testing for hydraulic characteristics and pump sizing.

HydroDesigns, LLC was subcontracted to perform construction oversight of two replacement monitor wells for the existing Class I Injection Well located at the Grant Street Wastewater Treatment Plant. The deep injection zone monitor well was drilled to a total depth of 1,480 feet bls. Geophysical logs and straddle packer tests were performed on the deep well to determine the final casing installation depth. A second replacement monitor well was drilled to a total depth of 850 feet and the two older existing monitoring wells were abandoned at the Grant Street Wastewater Treatment Plant. Construction oversight work included, documentation of daily site activities (drilling rates, mud weights, casing installations, etc.), geologic interpretation of cuttings and cores, interpretation of geophysical logs, and aquifer performance testing. Reports were provided as requirements of FDEP permit compliance.

HydroDesigns, LLC was subcontracted to describe cuttings, cores, and geophysical logs from two 8,000-foot deep wells just south of Lakeland, Florida. The Tampa Electric wells were permitted as Class I injection wells. Detailed research was done on the deeper geologic formations on the Gulf Coast. Formations of Miocene, Eocene, and Paleocene Age were researched and described including Hawthorn Group, Suwannee Limestone, Ocala Limestone, Avon Park Formation, Oldsmar Formation, and Cedar Keys Formation. Formations of Cretaceous Age that were researched and described included; the Lawson Limestone, Pine Key Formation (equivalent), and Atkinson Formation. The Cedar Keys Lawson Injection Zone (CKLIZ) was identified in both wells at about 4,000 feet to 4,650 feet bls. A geological report was prepared for MWH that interpreted and described the stratigraphy and hydrogeology of the wells.

HydroDesigns, LLC assisted with the design, permitting, construction supervision, and reporting of a Class V ASR system to the FDEP. The ASR well was to be used to inject treated municipal effluent into the Upper Floridan aquifer. This system was comprised of one ASR well drilled to 470 feet into the Upper Floridan aquifer and three monitoring wells in zones at 370 feet (two wells) and 200 feet. Responsibilities included the preparation of daily site logs, collection and description of cuttings and cores, water quality sampling, interpretation of geophysical and video surveys, and preparation of weekly reports for submission to FDEP as part of the conditions of the construction and testing permit. An application for cycle testing of the ASR system was submitted to FDEP, but due to legal opposition to the use of treated effluent as a storage fluid in the Upper Floridan aquifer, the project has been put on hold.
